ASG Announces New Chief Operating Officer
We’re excited to welcome Frank Callanan to ASG Information Technologies as our new Chief Operating Officer.
Frank Callanan is an operations leader with more than 15 years of experience supporting growing organizations across public service and the private sector. He has held senior leadership roles focused on building structure as organizations scale and brings experience leading operations within managed service providers. Earlier in his career, Frank served as a Police Officer for the City of Mount Vernon, an experience that continues to shape his leadership approach. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the College of Westchester, completed the Thayer Leadership Development Program at West Point, and is a certified Project Management Professional.
Frank joins ASG as Chief Operating Officer at a time when the company is focused on strengthening how it operates internally. His role centers on improving day to day processes and making sure teams have the support they need as ASG continues to grow.
“I’m excited to join ASG because it has kept a strong people-first mindset while continuing to invest in the structure needed to grow,” said Frank. “That balance is rare.”
In his first year, Frank will focus on strengthening the operational foundation of ASG, with an emphasis on how work gets done across the business and how teams are supported as ASG scales.
“Above all, my goal is to support and empower our teams as we grow,” Frank said. “It’s important that we scale with clarity and consistency while continuing to put people first.”
Frank’s arrival also marks an exciting milestone for ASG, as Ryan steps into his new role as Chief Executive Officer.
Ryan Kreger named Chief Executive Officer
Ryan started at ASG in 2014 as an entry-level Service Desk Technician. Over time, he moved through several roles, gaining experience across the business and a strong understanding of how ASG supports its clients. He was promoted to Vice President, and then to President in 2021. As CEO, Ryan’s focus shifts to leading the company forward while building on the foundation already in place.
“My transition to CEO, paired with Frank stepping in as COO, elevates ASG to the next level. It allows me to dedicate more time to strategic leadership, vision-setting, and nurturing the strong client relationships we’ve built over 28 years,” said Ryan. “For the team, this means stronger operational support from Frank, refining processes, improving efficiency, and empowering everyone to excel. Overall, it positions ASG for sustained growth, better client outcomes, and an even stronger culture focused on our clients.”
As Ryan steps into his new role as CEO, Rob is transitioning from Chief Executive Officer to Chief Financial Officer, shifting his focus to the financial side of the business.
Rob Mitchell transitions to Chief Financial Officer
“I’m personally excited for Rob,” said Ryan. “As the business has grown, the focus on our finances has had to grow as well for us to operate at this level. The fact that I have a truly trusted partner in this role, someone who has always operated on the same page as I have, is something I think most businesses lack. It’s honestly one of the things that has enabled us so much on our journey. In truth, Rob has already been doing this, but in the next year he’ll continue to specialize and help us simply do things better, and drive us to operate at that next level as we grow.”
Rob founded ASG in 1997 as a one-man break fix shop. Over time, the company grew from reactive support to a proactive, managed approach. Just shy of 30 years later, ASG has become one of the leading Managed Service Providers in Connecticut and across New England.
As CEO, he has helped guide ASG through significant growth and change. Rob’s move to Chief Financial Officer reflects where his experience brings the most value as ASG continues to grow.
“With both me and ASG closing in on 30 years, I’ve began to step back from the day-to-day operations of the company. We’ve promoted Ryan Kreger to CEO, and I’m taking on the role of CFO so I can stay focused on the financial health and long term direction of the business,” said Rob. “Ryan has done an incredible job as President, and his move into the CEO role gives me a lot of confidence in our continued growth and in our ability to keep delivering the client experience ASG is known for.”
Alongside these IT leadership changes, we’re also recognizing growth within the team through a big internal change. We’d like to recognize and congratulate Heather Abel on her new role as Strategic Advisor.
New Strategic Advisor
Heather started at ASG in 2013 and has played an important role in ASG’s growth over the years. She has supported the business and stepped into many parts of the company, including scheduling and invoicing, as well as sales and marketing.
For more than a decade, Heather has been one of the first points of contact for clients. Through those daily interactions, she has built strong relationships and a deep understanding of client needs. She has become a familiar and trusted voice to many of the businesses ASG supports.
Heather’s promotion to Strategic Advisor reflects the role she has grown into over time. She will no longer be answering the phones and instead will be focused on building relationships in the field, working directly with businesses that are looking for the kind of IT support and guidance ASG provides.
